Get Together in Person and Online

Getting involved in a study group can help you connect with your classmates, and support your work on class activities and assignments. Studying in groups offers students an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and to gain new perspectives on the course material.

The Library offers plenty of meeting spaces: collaborative stations with computers and large monitors on the second and third floors, and seating in the cafe.

In the online environment, meeting in groups may look and feel a little different than the F2F classroom.

  • You could meet via FaceTime, Discord, Skype, Zoom Links to an external site., Google Hangouts, or Google Chat (from your Cal Poly Humboldt email account) to meet and discuss course assignments/projects.
  • Canvas has several features that allow students to connect via Collaboration, Chat, or Discussions, depending on which features your instructor utilizes in your course.

The Learning Center can help too! They offer several ideas about forming and participating in study groups. They created a Discord Links to an external site. server to help students easily stay in touch and share study resources with one another. They provide free small-group tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic peer coaching, workshops, and the Writing Studio.

The overall idea here is that you have access to a variety of tools to help you meet with your study group.
