Motivation Overview

Module 4 What Motivates You?

HSU graduation celebration

Motivation is a key factor to succeeding in every course, regardless of the teaching mode. You probably respond to a combination of internal and external motivators and need to be mindful of monitoring and calibrating your academic energy and activities.

For all courses you are responsible for:

  • reading/mastering the course syllabus and schedule
  • being prepared by doing the reading or viewing assignments
  • engaging actively with instructional content (lecture, demonstrations, lab and field work, discovery)
  • participating in class activities and discussions
  • understanding the assignments and talking with your instructor if you need clarification
  • submitting assignments on time and carefully reviewing instructor feedback
  • meeting all deadlines, including class meeting times and synchronous online meetings

You are responsible for you own learning. Since you will probably use Canvas for each course, set your schedule to log in according to your instructor's directions (at a minimum) and your learning needs. You very well might log in every day.

How will you stay motivated to succeed if and when difficulties arise?
