Strategies and Skills
Learning strategies are specific behaviors and thinking processes that students use to improve their comprehension or understanding of what they are learning. In addition to the hints and tips you read about earlier, the following list provides an overview of the common types of learning strategies. As you read through the list, consider which strategies suggested by Weinstein and Mayer Links to an external site. you already use, and which ones you might need to spend more time practicing.

Learning Center
The Learning Center on the first floor of the Library offers some of the most important services available to you on campus. The Learning Center provides:
- tutoring services (one-on-one and group tutoring)
- supplemental instruction for science and math classes
- math and computer science tutoring lab
- study skills workshops
- a Writing Studio open during weekdays, evenings, and weekends
- free online tutoring “after hours” via NetTutor
- academic peer coaching
- digital resources
You can meet one-on-one with a study skills expert in person or Zoom to learn how to improve your learning strategies and study skills for a particular class. The staff are friendly and welcoming, so be proactive and take advantage of these empowering services!
