Canvas Overview

Module 2 Canvas LMS and Technology

Overview

Cal Poly Humboldt Canvas logoAt Cal Poly Humboldt we use Canvas as our Learning Management Systems (LMS). It provides you access to the course syllabus, calendar, assignments and other materials and functions. Canvas is web-based, therefore, you will need a computer with Internet access and browser to use it. Please note that a few instructors at Humboldt may use a different LMS or their own website for an online course, however this module can still help you understand some basics about online course structure, elements and navigation.

Each of your online courses will contain some similar elements such as a syllabus, course schedule, assignments and activities, readings and materials, calendar with due dates, and assessments, or ways to test your learning. Courses will vary in terms of activities and assessments such as quizzes, tests, written papers and group projects. Most of your online courses will include discussion forums, where you will communicate with your classmates and instructor. In this module you will learn to identify common LMS tools and familiarize yourself with their purposes and functions.
