Welcome to Sophomore Year!

Sophomore year is an interesting limbo of sorts. It's not your first year of high school anymore; you have experience now. Still, you're not an upperclass(wo)man. Last year, you were figuring out the ropes of how high school works both in and out of the classroom, so this year, it's time to put what you learned into action. Get more involved, consider taking on leadership roles, and really focus on your grades. Your grades this year make up half of what most colleges will consider for admissions.

Our Main Goal

Throughout your Sophomore year, our goal is to help you feel confident in the many, many options you have for your future. You'll be introduced to several college options, get a reminder of college entrance requirements, and learn more about pursuing the things you love (sports? music? art? video games?) in college. You'll also learn why your grades matter this year (they really do!) and get an introduction to the types of Financial Aid available to you for college. We'll also walk you through various Study Skills, including how to use electronic resources wisely. Finally, you'll dive deeper into career and job interest surveys and start thinking about what your first job might look like (assuming you don't have one already). There are tons of Check Your Knowledge self-quizzes built in to help you track your progress. Talk with your TRiO advisor and school counselor often as you work through this course.

We also want you to consider your life's purpose as you explore and learn about yourself. The hope is that over the next few years and throughout your twenties, you can discover something that you both love and are good at that can also help the world.
