California Community Colleges

Applying to California Community Colleges is generally simple. You'll need about 20 minutes, some specific materials, and a computer.

CCC Apply

California Community Colleges have made great efforts to simplify the application process for students. With proper planning, you should make it through this process relatively easily. You will have to submit an application to each school, but CCC Apply will save your information for the next application, making it easier if you decide to apply to multiple community colleges.

Gather the following materials to make your application process as simple as possible. This list is derived from the College of the Redwoods application, but most CCCs will request similar information:

Social Security Number
- Let your friends who are Dreamers know that they will need their citizenship information, including alien registration numbers, for the application.
Copy of your High School Transcript (ask your TRiO advisor or school counselor)
Personal Information (address, birthday, etc)
What you want to study (can select undeclared) & your educational goal
How long you've lived in California

You may want to print out the paper CR Application for practice. You can even have it with you when you complete the online application to make the process easier.

Note About Trade Schools

Many trades are taught at community colleges. For example, if you are interested in becoming a welder or an auto mechanic, you can learn those trades at College of the Redwoods (and many other community college throughout the state). If you are interested in Cosmetology, you could attend San Jose City College — and those are just two examples. For trade programs at community colleges, you'll use CCC Apply, described above. If you're not sure where to look for your programs, that's okay! Ask your TRiO advisor and school counselor for help.
