Local Humboldt & Del Norte County Scholarships

Students in the Humboldt area, including Humboldt County and Del Norte County, are very fortunate to have access to several local scholarship resources, including the Northcoast Scholarship Finder, the Humboldt Area Foundation, and the Del Norte Scholarship Foundation

Northcoast Scholarship Finder

The Northcoast Scholarship Finder Links to an external site. is a relatively new resource sponsored by Humboldt State University in partnership with College of the Redwoods, Humboldt County Office of Education, and Humboldt Area Foundation. The scholarship database is updated weekly (yep — weekly!) throughout the year. Scholarship deadlines vary.

Since Northcoast Scholarship Finder is updated weekly, you could make a goal to check the website every week of your senior year. Thousands upon thousands of dollars in scholarship money go unclaimed every year simply because no one applies, so give it a shot!

Humboldt Area Foundation

The Humboldt Area Foundation Links to an external site. is a collection of over 150 scholarships that use the same common application. Every scholarship uses the same base information, and then depending on their requirements, some scholarships may ask for letters of recommendation, an essay, or an activities sheet (we've been calling that a Brag Sheet).

The application is available for all High School Seniors and current college students from Humboldt County starting January 15th each year, and the deadline is March 15th. Sometime in February of your Senior year, a representative from the Humboldt Area Foundation will probably visit your school and help you start your application. You can complete this application every year you're in college, even if you leave Humboldt County for school.

Completing the Humboldt Area Foundation application could take you two or three hours. That might seem like a long time, but let's do the math as if it took you two whole hours and you earned $1,000 in scholarships:

While it is true that some students are not awarded scholarships through the Humboldt Area Foundation, many of our students are. Some receive a few hundred dollars, and some receive enough to save some money for their second year of college.

In case we haven't been clear enough: make sure to apply for Humboldt Area Foundation scholarships.

Del Norte Scholarship Foundation

The Del Norte Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to students graduating from high schools in the Del Norte County School District. The application is available in March for current Seniors. Please check directly with your TRiO advisor and school counselor in Del Norte for more information.
