Even when participants have emotional or angry-sounding responses, the conversation can still sift out gold. There is great power in a group of people-- like a ritual-- sticking through awkward and imperfect sharing.

- Reflection from Participant in December 7 Student Success Summit

We love this quote from the December Success Summit, as it captures how important it is that we continue to dialogue with each other, and 'stick through' these crucial conversations about the impact of our actions in the classroom on student learning. As the author points out, we also need to also remember that while the conversation may feel awkward and imperfect, if we stay in tune with our best selves--always keeping students in our focus-- we can create great things together.

ESCALA and HSU created this CANVAS site as a way for you to reflect together on the main ideas from the Success Summits, and deepen your discussions about asset-based equity, cultural frameworks, and Hispanic Serving Institutions.

Small Group Discussions:

We will post new questions every few weeks leading up to our next Summit on February 15. In order to keep the discussions intimate, you are assigned to a smaller group. Each group has the same questions, and we will send an email when the old discussion is closed and a new one is posted. Go to "Discussions" link in the left course navigation menu.

Other Resources:

The Readings and Videos Resource also contains resources to support the work you are doing in the Student Success Summits, and provides a basis for further discussion with your colleagues in your departments. If you have additional resources you'd like to post, please send them to us at escalaeducation@gmail.com and we'll add them to the list so your colleagues can benefit.
