ART and SOCIAL WORK - the two threads have come together.
For many years, I have weaved two separate strands of threads. My culminating years of education and exploration in art has now crossed into the culminating years of professional experience and expansion of my knowledge in social work practice. My experiences are now intertwined. Art is my entry point for connection, dialogue, relationship, and healing. Social work practice particularly with respect to work with Indigenous and rural communities is a passion and a lifetime commitment towards advocating for equality, social justice, and the belief that we can heal in the midst of adversity. I encourage and welcome alternative, non-verbal, dynamic, creative, and unusual ways to express one self through tools at an arms reach. I embrace a multi-disciplinary team approach. I embrace rich and culturally relevant, expressive and playful art-making processes that can include found objects, painting, drawing, theater, poetry, sculpture, dance, performance, music, photography and video.
This eportfolio is one of my culminating projects for my Masters Degree in Social Work at Humboldt State University. The portfolio reflects the learnings that have impacted my work in the mental health field, in my personal life and in my community. I attempt to use a lot of images as well as make as many connections to art as a healing modality. Follow the links on the left and on the right. I welcome your feedback, curiosity and or questions.
