Weeks 5-8 Management

The Big Picture for the Module

  • Increase your understanding of the concepts of stock assessment and the relationships to fisheries management processes (e.g., Pacific Fisheries Management Council)
  • Learn the basic "language" of stock assessment which is applicable to aquatic invertebrates, fishes, and marine mammals
  • Learn more about the diversity of career options in the field of fisheries management and conservation

Your Learning Activities

  • Demonstrate understanding of the different types of data used in dependent and independent fisheries assessments 
  • Demonstrate understanding of fished species' life history, biology, and habitat use and how management practices impact sustainability
  • Assess historic and current management practices and evaluate the effectiveness of the management practices 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the concept of stock assessment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the data available to manage fisheries
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the intricacies of Tribal sovereignty and  US government fisheries management
  • Be fluent in Panopto
